Tassels, tiebacks, edgings and trimmings are also known as passementerie crafts.
So are you ready to take trimmings to the next level? Ever thought you could make tassels ‘just’ the way you want them? Tassels and trimmings have been designed and made in small specialised workshops since the mid 17th century. It is only in recent years that this obscure craft has been introduced to textile artists and enthusiasts. These wonderful skills are now enjoying a huge renaissance amongst the vintage and handmade movement.
We are thrilled to welcome Anna Crutchley who offers a variety of 1-day workshops to teach you how to make beautiful Tassels. Anna trained in woven textiles and now makes trimmings to commission for antique dealers, furniture restorers, interior decorators and heritage organisations. She is the author of The Tassels Book and Decorative Tassels. In these one-day courses you will be using a contemporary and rich colour palate of high quality rayon, cotton and wool yarns, and learning traditional tassel making techniques.
In a fabulous one-day Handmade Trimmings workshop, Ian McQueen will teach you to add the personal finishing touches to your lampshade, upholstery or soft furnishings project. How about some rustling up some flamboyant ‘Butterfly’ edging, double piping, faux double piping or shell trims? Ian teaches our popular Traditional Lampshade Making and Pleated Lampshades courses at the centre. His City & Guilds training and personal enthusiasm for his craft has enriched our workshops and enlivens our classes – students love a day in the centre learning with Ian.
The course will cover measuring up of the frames to get correct amount as well as learning the means of attaching the trims. Many of the trims you will learn are also perfect to use on cushions, finish off the bottom of blinds and on the leading edge of curtains as well as lampshades – how versatile is that?
I just wanted to let you know that I had an amazing time at the course last Saturday & loved every bit of the time I spent with you & the wonderful Tutor Ian.
Both of these courses compliment several of our other interiors workshops such as: Traditional Lampshade Making, Pleated Lampshades, Curtain Making and any Upholstery class.
