These special courses and their projects are your chance to experience the ‘real woodworking machinery’ at the Goodlife Centre. They take place within our well equipped ‘Machines Room’ and will be your opportunity to use the large machines that the other woodwork courses do not get a chance to use.
Unlike our regular studio courses, these projects take you from start to finish using professional machinery essential for this level of work.
Each hardwood project starts its journey as lengths of rough cut timber which you will machine down to size using a planer/thicknesser and a large panel/table saw.
During the making process you will learn how to read and design plans and be introduced to jigs – especially made templates that will save time and increase accuracy. There may be processes that require the use of a router and all will use precision hand tools.
These courses deepen your learning by being immersive and content rich.
The tutors, Ruth Thomson and Christopher Burley are experienced professionals who teach in a practical and light hearted way with your safety paramount.
