Introduction to Drawing Course – 5 evenings 6.30pm-9pm
Join us for the opportunity to learn life drawing in our lovely upstairs studio with the founders of The London Drawing group. Even if you have never drawn before, this is a confidence building and affirming environment in which to enjoy every step.
We know that figurative and observational drawing can be frustrating without proper guidance, so we have broken down our teaching into a step-by step process that will guide you on a drawing journey through five tailored classes spread over five weeks.
Through this course you will not only be taught to understand the basic and intermediate levels of figurative drawing and portraiture, but also encouraged to use a variety of materials and value your own unique approach to drawing.
Perfect for beginners and mixed groups, this course creates a lovely, open atmosphere for learning and personal growth.
With tutors from the London Drawing Group and a professional life-model, you will explore Line-Drawing, Tonal Drawing, Portraiture, Human Anatomy and Composition.
London Drawing Group is made up of three practicing artists; Lucy McGeown, Luisa Maria MacCormack and Frances Stanfield who will be teaching in turn over the course. Here’s what they have to say;
‘At London Drawing Group, Drawing is at the heart of everything we do, we love it and we want our students to love and appreciate it as much as we do. With this in mind, we have created our Introduction to Drawing Course.’
Perfect for beginners and all abilities. All materials included
Muybridge and The Art of Movement – One day workshop 10am-5pm
This one day course will delight anyone who would like to approach drawing in a fun and experimental way.
Spend the day learning to draw ‘movement’ by exploring the work of photographer, artist and proto cinematographer Eadweard Muybridge. (Born 1830, Surrey, Eng.—died 1904)
Known for his famous photographs of human and animal locomotion which used multiple cameras to capture movement in stop-motion photography, Muybridge laid the groundwork for generations of photographers, filmmakers, animators and artist to follow.
With the help of a wonderful model, this workshop will be an opportunity to delve deeper into Muybridge’s studies of movement as well as referencing images of his work.
Through the day we will be looking at ways in which drawing can be influenced by or portray movement, from creating ‘proto animations’- excellent for budding cartoonists and illustrators- to dealing with expressive drawing and gesture. This will be an exciting opportunity to experiment with your drawing in a totally unique way.
Monoprinting from a Model – One day workshop 10am-5pm
Delve into life drawing and printmaking in this fun and unusual day workshop.
Drawing directly from the model, expert tutor Frances Stanfield will guide you through the drawing process while teaching simple printmaking techniques to help you capture form, texture and atmosphere.
Monoprint is a form of printmaking that has marks that can only be made once so can make wonderfully loose, unexpected and painterly results which can be used to free up your drawing technique.
Printmaking helps you discover accidental marks and edges that can inform the way you draw in new and exciting ways. The results are immediate but the images can later be worked into collages. Expect wonderful textures and unusual ‘happy accidents’.
Perfect for beginners. All materials included.
