Suitable for: Absolute beginners. No prior experience in woodworking or woodcarving is required for this course.
About: Learn the classic set of practical steps to create a beautiful low relief woodcarving in lime wood.
Have you ever marveled at the fine detail or flowing lines of a wood carving? Or perhaps you have wondered what it would be like to carve wood? Join one of our Intro to Woodcarving workshops and let our experts charm and assure you that a woodcarving to be proud of will be in your hands by the end of the course.
Learning to carve wood is a beautiful experience. Even if you have never held a chisel before or can’t draw a design, our tutor’s inspiring method of teaching will build your confidence and teach you correct woodcarving technique in a relaxed manner.
By following the contours of the wood pattern or a real leaf, you will learn the classic set of practical steps to a low relief woodcarving in lime wood.
As sharp tools are the key to success, they will also show you how to keep your tools in top condition to achieve the results you desire.
Intro Woodcarving – Carve a leaf in a day 10-5pm
Intro to Woodcarving – daytime 10-5pm You will create 4 projects:
Day one – Whittle a spoon, Day two – Carve a Celtic knot, Day three – Carve a wooden bird, and Day four carve a leaf in relief.
All necessary materials, including the use of tools, will be provided.
Jon Hall
Jon is a City and Guild trained wood carver. He works as a professional high end maker, restorer and gilder and shares his expertise in a patient and playful manner. Jon may share access to his humorous and original Youtube channel.
General Information
You will receive a courtesy reminder by email 1-2 days before the workshop/course begins.
Refreshments
Coffee, tea and biscuits are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you or visit a nearby venue to purchase food.
Access
If you have any specific access or special needs, please contact us confidentially in advance by email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk. There is a small step to the entrance, and the toilet is on the ground floor.
All sewing workshops and occasionally lampshade making, tassel making and bookbinding workshops are located on the second floor. There is no lift access.
