Intro to Woodturning

If you have ever seen wood turned on a lathe and been intrigued by the bowls and forms made on it, this one day woodturning workshop will demystify the craft and teach you basic techniques to make a simple bowl and a hardwood barrelled pen.

Discover the parts of the lathe and understand how to safely secure your work, the methods to use with each chisel and how to sand and finish your projects.

During this one-day woodturning workshop you will learn the ’Headstock method’ to make a small bowl in hardwood and ‘Spindle turning’ to make a wooden tube that fits into a metal pen mechanism.

Come with curiosity and enthusiasm and leave with satisfaction, a bowl and ready to use rollerball pen.

We will also advise you how to continue this fascinating hobby with guidance on buying your own woodturning lathe, tools and timber.

All necessary materials, including the use of tools, will be provided.

Refreshments

Coffee, tea and biscuits are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you or visit a nearby venue to purchase food.

Access

If you have any specific access or special needs, please contact us confidentially in advance by email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk. There is a small step to the entrance, and the toilet is on the ground floor.

All sewing workshops and occasionally lampshade making, tassel making and bookbinding workshops are located on the second floor. There is no lift access.
