Bookbinding Workshops

If you would like to learn how to bind your own book or to create a unique gift for someone or own something special that you have made yourself, then this bookbinding workshop offers a pleasurable pastime and easy to replicate at home.

Over one day, professional binder and restorer Joe Dixon will unlock the secrets of bookbinding techniques and guide you through the process of making your own notebook or travel journal to take home and treasure or gift to someone. Learners will learn how to fold, sew, trim and ‘case in’ a single signature blank hardback.

Sketch, doodle or jot those ‘To Do’ lists and light bulb moments in style.

One Day Bookbinding – A5 Notebook
Join us for a one day immersive workshop with experienced bookbinder Joe Dixon. In this course, learners will create a multi signature A6 notebook. The book will be hand sewn, the spine lined and cased in using traditional techniques, using a quarter bound style.

This workshop is also suitable for beginners and takes place over one day 10am – 5pm.

One Day Bookbinding – Travel Journal 
In this one day course students will learn how to bind their own travel journal complete with pencil holder. Students will fold, sew, trim and case in an A6 notebook which is a perfect journal for your travels.

Joe will be able to show you everything you will need to get going on this fascinating pastime. Bespoke books make awesome presents and writing in a book you have ‘made’ is a very special experience.

The use of all tools and materials are provided.

We have a varied selection of papers and cloth to personalise your own design.

Joe Dixon

Joe Dixon is a London based bookbinding tutor, book restorer and producer of bespoke hand bound products.

With over 10 years experience teaching bookbinding and associated arts he offers a full range of courses and workshops aimed at both beginners and advanced students. Joe also restores leather and cloth bindings as well as offering a bespoke bookbinding service.

General Information

You will receive a courtesy reminder by email 1-2 days before the workshop/course begins.

Refreshments

Coffee, tea and biscuits are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you or visit a nearby venue to purchase food.

Access

If you have any specific access or special needs, please contact us confidentially in advance by email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk. There is a small step to the entrance, and the toilet is on the ground floor.

All sewing workshops and occasionally lampshade making, tassel making and bookbinding workshops are located on the second floor. There is no lift access.
