Intro to Machine Sewing

If you would love to run up some new clothes or just fix a seam but are daunted by all those controls on a sewing machine, our one day workshop will demystify them all and send you home with new found confidence and a simple item you will make during the day.

Experienced tutor Ian McQueen will guide you through how to recognise all the parts of a machine, thread the bobbins, sew neat rows of stitching on basic materials.

How to read rulers and tape measures and cut fabric accurately. Make hems, seam allowances and French seams.

We have various user friendly machines for you to try which will help you choose if you are planning on purchasing one soon. Bring lots of questions and we will supply everything else.

Our classes are small and each person has a machine to themselves for the day.

This is an excellent confidence booster and a great primer for all of our project sewing courses.

The use of all tools and materials is included.

Ian McQueen

Ian is a City and Guilds trained craftsman who has taught for many years. He makes beautiful traditionally built fine lampshades for interior designers and high end shops. Some are sophisticated some are dramatic statements bejewelled with vintage adornments. All are hand stitched with precision so that they retain their shape and structure to give years of pleasure.

You will receive a courtesy reminder by email 1-2 days before the workshop/course begins.

Refreshments

Coffee, tea and biscuits are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you or visit a nearby venue to purchase food.

Access

If you have any specific access or special needs, please contact us confidentially in advance by email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk. There is a small step to the entrance, and the toilet is on the ground floor.

All sewing workshops and occasionally lampshade making, tassel making and bookbinding workshops are located on the second floor. There is no lift access.
