About: A comprehensive introduction to clothes making and sewing with machines; make a set of pyjama trousers or shorts over the weekend.
A wonderful introduction to learn how to make your own clothes. Enjoy the special feeling of wearing something unique that fits you exactly!
Over two days, expert sewing tutor will teach you how to take body measurements, read and adapt a paper pattern, lay out, cut fabric and make pyjama trousers or shorts in the fabric of your choice using one of our simple to use Janome 525s and Bernina 1008 series sewing machines.

Classes are taught in relaxed small groups in our light and airy first floor studio. Teaching consists of demonstrations and group teaching as well as lots of machine sewing and one-to-one and peer support.
Unlearn those self-taught shortcuts and make this the start of a new hobby/career in sewing or fashion!
A good level of English and basic maths skills are useful.
If you aren’t confident at using a sewing machine, we recommend our ‘Intro to Sewing machines’ one day class.
The use of tools is included.
This is the pattern you will need to bring to the workshop New look 6859 – you can decide to make shorts or trousers and whether you would like to add pockets.
You will need a minimum of 1.5 metres of fabric. 2 metres might be better especially if you are tall and want add pockets – it is easier if the right and wrong sides of the fabric are easily identifiable.
We would suggest 100% cotton or polycotton for every day simple pyjamas (easier to work with if you are an absolute beginner), also something like brushed cotton for extra warmth. Or you might like to try a fleece fabric for lounging; linen for summer style trousers or novelty fabric for Christmas etc.

Deborah graduated from Camberwell College of Arts with a BA Hons in Illustration. Over the years she has developed her own practice of drawing and illustration to combine machine embroidery with digital imagery and a bit of old school pen and paper for good measure. Her clients include The Guardian Newspapers, The Barbican, Latitude Festival, Danny Boyle’s Shuffle Festival, Vital Arts and The Big Draw.

Refreshments
Coffee, tea and biscuits are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you or visit a nearby venue to purchase food.
Access
If you have any specific access or special needs, please contact us confidentially in advance by email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk. There is a small step to the entrance, and the toilet is on the ground floor.
All sewing workshops and occasionally lampshade making, tassel making and bookbinding workshops are located on the second floor. There is no lift access.
