The wettest drought?

It all started with a rush of optimism and we all put our gardenĀ furnitureĀ out during the warm spell last month. Now its pelting down and the tables and chairs are taking a beating. More than many other trivial pursuits in the garden, time spent making sure that all wood is encased in a protective oil or varnish will pay off as your furniture will last for years longer.

Every summer- choose a warm day when the sun isn’t too scorching- carefully varnish or liberally oil chairs and and tables. Use special care making sure that the end grain gets a good drink as it will soak up all the moisture and that’s often where the rot sets in. If the wood is protected then your table will shrug off the rain like water off a duck’s back.
