Stencilling is a quick and easy way to transform most surfaces, including furniture, fabric, floors and walls. The possibilities are endless and the results can be stunning.
Spend a relaxing day learning how to stencil like a pro, covering all of the basic skills necessary for successful stencilling.
You will learn how to cut your own simple motif stencil using Mylar, work with repeating patterns and create perfect corners.
We will explore various methods for applying paint using brushes, sponges and rollers and you will receive lots of tips on how to avoid the pitfalls.
Working mostly on boards there will be plenty of opportunity to practise and experiment with a large range of repeating, border and motif stencils.
Enjoy a full day learning how to:
Cut a simple stencil single motif with Mylar
-Work with the simple motif to create borders, all-over repeats and larger motifs
-Look at different methods of applying paint – brush/sponge/roller
-Practice with different paints, including metallic ones.
-Learn how to stencil a floor and fabric and how to stencil in difficult places e.g. interior corners
-Try stencilling onto painted surfaces/stencilling directly onto wood
-Learn about the pit falls and tips to avoid them
-Build up a pattern to fit an area using different patterns
-Try multi colour stencilling/ Ombre effects
There is plenty of time for practise and to experiment on paper and on boards that you will take home and treasure, this day will set you off into a world of expert stencilling.
About the Tutor
Nicolette Tabram studied textile design at Central School of Art in London. She has designed for many high street companies with her work taking her to lots of vibrant countries around the world. Apart from meeting wonderful people, she has been inspired by the amazing decoration, pattern and colour from different cultures.
