A fabulous five day ‘Carpentry for beginners’ course, this is an opportunity to learn an array of skills in a short set of wonderfully absorbing days. Using a mixture of traditional hand tools and modern drills and saws, experienced craftswoman Ruth Thomson will guide and inspire you as she teaches age old techniques in carpentry. As you begin making your own
stepladder traditionally constructed from seasoned pine, you will learn how to use and care for chisels, saws, planes and spoke-shaves. Ruth is an experienced carpenter and teacher. She conveys her skillful practical experience with light-hearted humour.
Upholstery – Bring a Chair
Jump start your upholstery skills with a special summer course, led by professional tutor, Jan Dodd. A special opportunity to turn a chair from frump to fabulous in five fun filled consecutive days. Bring a chair and work on it every day transforming it by removing the old fabric and stuffing, revamp the woodwork and fit new upholstery so that you take away a unique creation to love and be proud of. Suitable for beginners and intermediate skilled learners.
This five-day course is a great way to indulge yourself and dive into the timeless world of woodcarving. This series of classes will be taught by Stephen Scott. Stephen is an award winning City & Guilds trained carver who has been carving since he was a child in Barbados. You will have a chance to experience carving soft and hardwoods, including beech and limewood- the traditional timber for fine detail. In this small workshop, you can be guided on how to produce a beautiful multiple leaf carving relief.
