One-day workshop. 10am – 5pm.
How to add the personal finishing touches to your lampshade, upholstery or soft furnishings project. How about some rustling up some flamboyant ‘Butterfly’ edging, double piping, faux double piping or shell trims?
This one-day workshop will be a chance to learn more about the skills needed to finish off any piece of furniture and turn it into a work of art. Its a wonderful accompaniment to several of our other workshops such as Linen Tassels, Pom Pom Tassels, Traditional or Pleated Lampshades and Curtain Making.
On this fabulous one-day trimmings workshop you will learn to measure and make up the following trimmings:
– Double piping
– Faux double piping
– A gathered frill
– Shell edging
– Bias binding
– Butterfly edging
– Rouleau ties
The course will cover measuring up of the frames to get correct amount as well as learning the means of attaching the trims. Many of the trims you will learn are also perfect to use on cushions, finish off the bottom of blinds and on the leading edge of curtains as well as lampshades (which we hope you learnt to hand make with us!) – how versatile is that?
You will take home any a length of trimming in each style that you have stitched to perfection. If you have a favourite fabric, feel free to bring a metre length or use fabric from our selection at the centre.
Ian McQueen teaches our popular Traditional Lampshade Making and Pleated Lampshades courses at the centre. His City & Guilds training and personal enthusiasm for his craft has enriched our workshops and enlivens our classes – students love a day in the centre learning with Ian.
No experience needed. The use of all tools and materials is included.
