Felt is the oldest textile known to man, believed to be some 8000 years old. It is made without sewing or weaving and is a non-constructed fabric.
If you have ever admired the gorgeous colours and comforting texture of hand crafted felt work, you will enjoy a one day workshop where you will learn the all the techniques you will need to produce a bespoke pair of slippers in any colour and combination of patterns you desire.
Whether you desire Moroccan style toes, a set of heel wings or some flowers, you will take home something unique to treasure or gift to a loved one.
Experienced expert felt maker Sue Pearl will help you design and make your slippers in merino wool, combining traditional and modern felt making methods.
Along the way you will learn how to make basic flat felt, blend colours, create patterns and how to make 3D felt effects using resists, for your own design. There are no seams or stitching in this classic process. You will learn how to shape the slipper as part of the process.
If you intend to make a pair of slippers for someone else, please bring an outline of their feet for a true custom made result.
