An enjoyable four week evening course for beginners.
If you have admired the woodcarving skills of long gone craftsmen in stately homes or seen anyone use a chisel to craft sinuous shapes in wood, this inspiring workshop will begin to connect you with the satisfaction of creating an object in wood.
Over four evenings, you will learn to carve in limewood – the same wood that Grinling Gibbons used to carve the ornate decorations in stately homes and churches.
Experienced wood carver Peter Houghton will guide you through the process of shallow relief carving to produce a handsome Celtic endless knot with boldness and depth. If you have your own idea for a motif, bring it along and we will help you adapt it for your project.
You will also learn how to keep wood carving tools sharp, which is an essential part of the creative process.
The use of all tools and materials included.
Four Wednesday evenings.
