Improve your sewing by learning some professional techniques
Become confident and proficient in making your own clothes.
During this 6 week course, learners will have a chance to perfect all the stages of basic dressmaking and tailoring by concentrating on universal and classic techniques to sewing success.
Professional sewing tutor Tracey Mee will guide you through all the processes to build up a portfolio of samples that you can use as a reference book for future projects.
Week 1: An introduction to the sewing machine helping you feel confident and independent by learning simple hems, joins and sewing tips.
Week 2: Seams and Hems
Week 3: Zips
Weeks 4 and 5: Facings, waistbands, gathers and pleats.
Week 6: Sleeves or pockets
A different topic is covered each week for the rest of the course learning how to master different types of sewing techniques.
Even if you have never touched a sewing machine, this small class is suitable to ramp up your skills enabling you to take on your own sewing projects. As the course progresses, you will discover that the same techniques can be used in different items. So building up on the different techniques also refreshes skills learnt in a previous lesson.
A good level of English and basic math skills are useful. No need to bring anything to the first lesson.
We have a selection of Bernina, Janome and Brother machines for you to use.
