TASSELS WITH BEADS AND FEATHERS Upcoming

One day ‘Tassel with Beads and Feathers’ course. 10am-5pm

Suitable for absolute beginners. Enjoyable for all.

In this course you will be introduced to the traditional techniques of tassel-making for interior decoration, as practised in trimmings workshop in the UK and Europe, using a wooden mould and high quality cotton and rayon yarns in rich and strong as well as soft and subtle colour combinations.

You will learn how to cover a wooden tassel mould with fine thread, make a wired skirt. You will assemble the tassel with a cord made with a specialised cordtwister. Beads and/or feathers can be added as a layer on top of the skirt to add an unusual finish.

By the end of the course you will have completed a tassel, covering a comprehensive range of basic techniques, to a high standard of finish and a good use of colour and materials.

Anna Crutchley is a designer-maker of passementerie (tassels, cords braids and fringes) which she makes to order for interior decorators, furniture restorers, soft furnishers and upholsterers. She researches into techniques and styles of trimmings that have been used in interiors since the 17th century, but also has an eye for a contemporary look. She is a trained teacher and author of books on tassel making – her latest edition Decorative Tassels and How to Make Them is available at the centre.

All materials are provided, and you will also be able to buy yarns, tassel moulds and cordtwisters from the tutor for further work at home, if you wish.
