Veneers are the thin slivers of fine wood that are used to embellish a less exotic material below. This allows the woodworker to make a stable surface that won’t split or warp.
The glue used provides additional strength, making the end result stronger than natural wood. This process dates back to the ancient Egyptians and is used to enhance most fine furniture.
Join us for a one day introduction to the art of veneering. During the day, you will learn how to select, cut and join the veneers, how to apply them to a square of plywood and how to stabilise them by adding a backing. We will use ‘raw’ veneer to produce beautiful patterns with the natural colours of different varieties of wood.
At the end of the day, we supply specially made mitred solid wood edging for your panel so you can take home a project to hang or use as you would like.
Suitable for beginners. All personal protection and use of tools and materials are included.
