A two month series of workshops to build your confidence to tackle household maintenance. Learn how to take care of the basic tasks in your home. A great way to help decide if its time to ’Do it Yourself’ or ‘Get Someone In.’
Spread over 8 weeks, each of the two hour classes give plenty of time to practice using a large range of materials and popular hand tools. Even if you have never tackled any DIY before, this course will encourage and increase your confidence. Interactive and practical – ask questions and play with the toys.
Note – These courses start every month. Choose a start date where you will be able to attend all the classes.
Week 1. Building a tool kit. Measuring, marking and cutting. Handsawing and using a jigsaw.
Week 2. Hammers, nails and clamps.
Week 3. Using screwdrivers. Introduction to drilling into wood, metal and plastic.
Week 4. Drilling into brick and tile. Hanging blinds and curtains.
Week 5. Plumbing basics. Change a tap washer, replace bathroom sealant.
Week 6. Flooring subfloors and surfaces – wood, vinyl tiles. Adhesive joints – what sticks what to what.
Week 7. Filling small and large holes. sanding and preparing wall and wood surfaces for decorating.
Week 8. How to paint ceilings and walls and woodwork. How to paint without drips or masking tape and how to select and care for a paintbrush.
This course is run on a Thursday evening over 8 weeks from 11:am – 1:00pm.
