Ever wanted to make your own curtains but not wanted to risk ruining expensive fabric if you tried? Do you have some lovely vintage fabric that you have been saving to 'get made' into curtains but been put off by the expense? In a one-day Curtain Making workshop, experienced curtain maker Grace Pennycooke will teach you how to produce beautiful flowing curtains for any room.

Even if you are an absolute beginner and a bit frightened of a sewing machine, Grace will guide you through measuring marking and cutting out fabric to assemble an unlined curtain with a smart pencil pleat header. If you feel more confident, it will be possible to incorporate a special lining fabric and we will even delve into the dark cosy world of interlinings. Using easy to learn hand stitching, everyone will take home a sample curtain made from one metre of fabric.

For a more contemporary look, try our Make and Fit Roman Blinds one-day workshop. From measuring the window to fixing it to the wall, experienced tutor, Jan Dodds will unfold the tools and techniques for making bespoke and accurately fitting blinds for any room in your house.

You will learn how to purchase and cut wood battens, where to buy the cords and trims and how to select a suitable fabric to bring perfection and privacy to your decor. As an added bonus, DIY expert Alison will be on hand to show you how to drill into walls to fit your blinds onto your window so that they stay up.

The Goodlife Centre has a small selection of fabrics for you to use, but you are welcome to bring your own to use . If you are unsure your fabric will be suitable then call Alison on 0207 760 7613 to discuss.
